Tracks



 

A track consists of a series of points that include time and position information. Additional data may be stored with each point, such as elevation, temperature or heart rate information. Tracks are displayed as a series of virtual segments (or 'lines') superimposed between each pair of points in the sequence they were recorded to provide a visual representation of the path taken. It is important to remember these segments are not actually part of the recorded track.

View Track

1. Double-click a track in the Library and Devices area.
2. Select Center Map.

1. Double-click a track.
2. In the Properties tab, select one or more options:
   • Summary statistics for the whole track are displayed in the Statistics area.
   • To view statistics for a selection of points, hold the Shift key on your keyboard, and select a range of points. The statistics for the selected points will appear in the Statistics area.
   • To view additional information about each point, select the More Info check box.
   • To view a point on the map, select the Center Map check box, and select a point.

View Track Graph

You can view graphs of track information, including temperature, elevation, speed, heart rate, and cadence. You can also view a graph that includes multiple tracks. When viewing a graph for multiple tracks, some graph features may not be available.

1. Select an option:
   • Double click a track.
   • To view a graph for multiple tracks, hold Ctrl while selecting desired tracks, then Right-click > Open.
2. Click Graph.
3. If available, from the drop-down lists, select the types of data to be displayed. When multiple data types are included in a track, two drop-down lists appear. You can view two different types of data on the graph by selecting different data types in each drop-down list.
4. Select one or more options:
   • To view the locations of specific points in the graph, hold your mouse pointer over the graph.
     appears on the map to indicate the location of the highlighted point on the graph.
   • To view the properties for a specific point, click a point on the graph.
     indicates the location of the selected point on the map.
   • To compare the properties of two points, click two points on the graph.
     indicate the locations of the starting point and the ending point on the map.
   • To zoom in on a section of the chart, select the Zoom check box, and drag the edges of the highlighted area in the lower graph.

Create Track

You can create a track by clicking points on the map or by drawing your track on the map.

1. Click My Collection, or click the desired list in My Collection.
2. Click File > New > Track or select the New Track tool.
3. Click points on the map to create a track between them, or click and drag to draw a track.
4. To save the track to the Library, or to a selected device that supports creating tracks, right-click or press Esc on your keyboard.

Edit Track

• Edit Track Points

  1. Double-click a track.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Select one or more options:
     • To delete a point, right-click a point in the list, and click Delete.
     • To copy or move a point to the clipboard, right-click a point, and click Copy or Cut.
     • To add a point, copy or cut a point from another track, then right-click in the point list, and click Paste.
     • To invert a track, click Invert.
     • To filter track points, click Filter, select filtering options, and click OK.

• Invert Track

  • You can invert a track to reverse the order of all the points in the track.
    1. Double-click a track.
    2. Select Invert.

• Filter Track Points

  • You can filter the points in a track to remove unwanted points and simplify the track (ALL removed points are permanently deleted from the track).
    1. Double-click a track.
    2. If necessary, hold Shift on your keyboard, and click the starting point and ending point of the range to be filtered.
    3. From the Properties tab, select Filter.
    4. Select the points to filter:
       • To filter the entire track, select Entire Track.
       • To filter only the range of points you selected, select Selected Track Points.
    5. Select the filtering method:
       • To set a minimum time between points, select Time, and enter a value.
       • To set a minimum distance between points, select Distance, and enter a value.
       • To have BaseCamp adjust the number of points automatically, select Automatic, and adjust the slider.
       • To set a maximum number of evenly spaced points, select Maximum Points, and enter a value.

• Edit Track on Map

  1. Right-click a track, and select Show on Map.
  2. The track appears as a colored line on the map.
  3. In the toolbar, click any of the following tools to edit the track:
     • Insert | Click a section of the track, and click to add new points in that section. When you are finished, right-click or press Esc on your keyboard.
     • Move Point | Click and drag a point to move it.
     • Erase | Click a point to erase it.
     • Divide | Select a section of the track, and click to divide the track based on the selection. The selected track points are removed from the original track and added to a new track.

• Join Tracks

  1. Left-click the first track you wish to join.
  2. Hold Ctrl and select (left-click) the next track to join.
  3. Repeat step 2 for each additional track you wish to join.
  4. Right-click any of the selected tracks from step 2 and select Advanced > Join the Selected Tracks...
  5. If necessary, select any of the Tracks listed in the new Join Tracks window to edit:
     • Move Up | Moves the selected track up one position in the list.
     • Reverse Selected Item | Reverse the direction of the selected track.
     • Move Down | Moves the selected track down one position in the list.
  6. Select OK.

• Track Elevation Data

  • When using a map that includes elevation information, you can replace the elevation data for all points in a track with elevation data from the map. Map elevation data may bemore accurate than GPSr elevation data.
    1. Select a track.
    2. Click Edit > Advanced > Set Selected Track to Map Elevation.

• Change Track Color

  1. Double-click a track.
  2. Select the Properties tab.
     • Select a color from the drop down list.

• Convert Track to Route

  1. Double-click a track.
  2. Select the Properties tab.
     • Select Create Route.

Track Simulation

• You can use the Playback feature in BaseCamp to simulate traveling a track.
• You can use the Playback Info toolbar to view additional information, such as distance, speed, heading, and time.
• Click View > Toolbars > Playback Infoto show or hide the Playback Info toolbar.
  1. Right-click a track in the Library and Devices area, and click Playback.
  2. The Playback toolbar will appear.
  3. Use the following options to control playback:
     • Click to pause the playback.
     • Click to start or resume playback.
     • Drag the slider to move forward and backward in the route or track.
     • Click the drop-down box to select the playback speed.
     • Click to restart playback at the beginning of the track.
     • Click to stop playback.

Copy Track

Drag and Drop any track(s) within BaseCamp to the desired List, or:

• Option 2
  1. Right-click a track.
  2. Choose Copy
  3. Choose the target List.
  4. Select OK.

Delete Track

• When you delete a track from the BaseCamp Library, the track is deleted from all lists and from My Collection.
• When you delete a track on a connected device, the track is removed from the device.
• To remove a track from a list without deleting the track, see Remove Item from List.
  • Option 1
    1. Locate the data you wish to delete in My Collection or Devices.
    2. Select the item(s) you want to delete.
    3. Right-click and select Delete.
  • Option 2
    1. Locate the data you wish to delete in My Collection or Devices.
    2. Select the item(s) you want to delete.
    3. Click Edit > Delete.

Import Track

Drag and Drop any track(s) from your computer or connected GPSr to the desired List, or:

• Option 2
  1. In the Library and Devices pane, select the location into which you want to import data (If you do not select a destination for the imported data, it is imported into the Unlisted Data folder).
  2. Click File > Import.
  3. Select a supported file, and click Open.

Export Track

Drag and Drop any track(s) to the desired device, or:

• Option 2
  1. Right-click a track.
  2. Choose Send To...
  3. Choose the target device.
  4. Select OK.
• Option 3
  1. Select a track.
  2. Select Edit on the toolbar
  3. Choose Send To...
  4. Choose the target device.
  5. Select OK.
• Option 4
  1. Select a track.
  2. Select Device on the toolbar
  3. Choose Send to Device...
  4. Choose the target device.
  5. Select OK.
