My original Garmin cable gave up the ghost some time back, so I'm using a "no name" one and a branded Maplin's one too. Both exhibit the same issue.
I think it's not a Garmin cable problem, it's all USB cables.
Tried it in both our cars too.
One 2001 Renault Clio with the cigar lighter/USB adapter, and with the 2011 Fiat 500 and a dedicated USB socket.
Garmin Spanner will do for now, but it would be nice to know what the problem .......... if it is a problem .......... actually is.
