How did you get updated to 2.6 last month? Did it happen automatically through GE? Or some other method? Some of us are stuck at 2.5 for some reason.

If you're Garmin Express is indicating your GPSMAP 66 GPS Software is current at 2.50 or 2.60, can you please navigate to the "C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Logs" directory on your PC, ZIP that directory (right click > send to > compressed folder), and send it to webmaster@GPSrChive.com.

In the meantime I have run Garmin WebUpdater and was able to force upgrade from 2.50 to 2.60. I was given no option to update to 2.70. I had set Express to never update automatically as I figured I would check for updates manually upon launching Express, (which I had done and still no update from 2.50). I have set that now to update anytime in case that was causing the issue. Still when I plug in my 66 I always get the message that "Sync Failed". Then launch Express, my 66 shows with a red X in the top right corner and a green dot in front of the name. When I click the 66 in Express it tells me I am up to date and the last check was when I just launched Express. If I click the Sync button it goes as normal, syncing successfully and then checking for updates. So I don't know why when plugging the unit in sync fails and then shows the red X in Express.

I will still zip and send the logs in case that helps.

I was able to update from GPS software version 2.50 to version 2.60 via WebUpdater. I closed down GE and was pleased to see the update available (along with a Micronesia time zone map). No version 2.70, however (as yet).

Garmin got them late in the day, and likely will not start looking at them until tomorrow at the earliest.

Hopefully, a resolution this week!

Is there any news on this gps chip firmware update as it does not seem to have been pushed out to everyone?

Same problem here, not possible to download 2.70
