Garmin serial cable

Hi :)
I don’t know if you’d call it an issue, but I wish the Garmin external power/serial data cable worked with the 66.
It supports the 64 and Oregons, and several others, but even with mini to micro USB adapter, no go with the 66.

If there’s some request list, I’d appreciate it being added. I assume the hardware is there to support it.
Cheers, B.

Do you have the part number for the cable?

You must use a full 5 pin adapter. My selfmade works.

Can you elaborate on what you have done to make this work?

Are you aware of any off the shelf micro-USB to mini-USB adapters that work out of the box?

Thank You!

It doesn’t work is the point :D at least for the 66. It isn’t supposed to, but I’d like ti supported.
I thought the 66 wasn’t on the list of supported devices simply because it has micro USB connector,
but that’s not the case. Even with mini->micro USB adapter it doesn’t work.

For a compatible device (such as 64), you plug it in, power the GPSr from the cable.
set interfece in the System menu to NMEA, and away you go.

EDIT,,,
Having read the above reply, I’ll test continuity for all pins. I know power and data are connected.

Ok the outer sheath isn’t connected straight through on my adapter.
Will report back when it’s sorted.

This will be excellent information for the wiki when it is resolved!

I think now that gruen was talking about the extra pin for USB OTG, which the serial cable does have, and is connected.
The sheath should be connected too, but it would probably still work without it.

I “think” I’ve removed the potting without ruining it.

There’s nothing proprietary in the cable’s encapsulated PCB. It’s an Intersil serial transceiver, and step down regulator for the power supply.

The Serial Data/Power Cable 010-11131-00 have a 12k resistor between pin 4 and pin 5, almost other have a short connection.

The NMEA works only with this 12k resistor.
