Oregon 700 GPS often 15-20 metres out

Unread post by Daveb10780 »

In the last few months my GPS has been quite a way out on many caches even in clear skies on the moor. It certainly makes caching very hard sometimes. I have taken to using my Samsung S9 more and more in these cases and it is much more accurate. I have tried a couple of recalibrates. Is there any advice for anything else I should do? I think my final attempt may be to do a full reset otherwise the Oregon 550 may have to come back to life!

I may have an answer. Every few months the GPS gets into a state where it doesn't get past the first startup screen. I then have to do a reset to get out of this state. I have reset profile data, units and other settings but forgot about the GPS. I have now re-enabled WAAS-EGNOS/GLONASS so hope next time out I will back to normal. Will post an update when I find out.

After a few trips with much better accuracy I can confirm the problem was with settings after a reset. The reset had to be done due to the device hanging at startup.
