I spent a week on holidays doing a lot of walking with my 66st clipped to my belt. During that week, on 3 occasions, I unhooked the gpsr to check something out and found it "frozen".
- screen was frozen on the map display
- pressing any button (including on/off) would produce a beep but no other action
On each occasion, I had to remove and re-install the batteries to get it going again. It had not been recording while it was frozen.
I know this doesn't provide much information to track a bug down, but that's all I have.

Re: Software 10.20 - random freezing
It is the problem with the SD card holder.
This is a very old system and the door does not seal very good.
Sometimes it comes a little undone and the SD card does not sit correctly.
I fixed this problem a long time ago.
You can read and see the fix I made in this post.

I show screen shots of the problem and fix.
Have not had any freezes since the fix.
