Incorrect average overall speed and time

I recently purchased an Oregon 700 for cycle touring and here is what I noticed after setting up my Trip Computer screen: my Speed overall data screen seems to actually show the speed while I'm moving, which is wrong. Also the total ~Trip Time is only showing the time when I was in motion, while it is supposed to show moving time + stopped time. I'm using auto-pause which shouldn't affect the calculation logic. Any clues?

What is the current firmware version?

I am unable to duplicate with firmware v5.30 installed.

firmware 5.30

I'm pretty sure this is Garmins weird calculation logic. It's best described on the activity screenshot from Garmin connect:

You can see that Total time and Moving time are the same, while the Elapsed time is much more. In my opinion, Total time should = Elapsed time.

Overall avg speed seems to be based on Total time, which makes it same as Moving Speed. Which is also wrong, it should be much less, should take the stopped time into account.

I'm pretty sure this is due to the auto-pause being ON. Garmin unit just ignores the auto-stopped time and does not count it as Time Stopped for some reason. I will test this with auto pause off in the coming days.

What values were displayed on the GPSr Trip Computer page?

Can you share the gpx and fit files for inspection?

Trip Time: showed trip time without stops (4 hours instead of 7 hours)
Overall Speed: showed moving avg

Forum does not allow attaching FIT or GPX. Here they are:

Thank you!

We loaded both the FIT and GPX into BaseCamp and immediately found anomalies with the FIT file recorded by your Oregon 7x0. We will submit this information to Garmin for further inspection. We do recommend you contact Garmin Support and provide them with this information as well.

Please post any updates here and we will do the same!

I typed a big post, but it failed to submit(

Long story short: when I stop the bike, and the auto-pause kicks in, all time counters except for Elapsed Actual TIme stop (Moving time, Stopped time, Time - all 3 of them stop). I just tested it outside and saw this with my own eyes.

Here is the chat transcript with Garmin support:

I will fiddle with recording interval, set it to Time and to 1 sec (this will just eat my battery), but I'm inclined to believe that something is wrong with Garmin's calculation logic during auto-pause mode. I don't think my unit is faulty.

None of that is going to fix the issue I spotted right away with the FIT file. I am waiting to hear back from Garmin once they have had a look at the FIT file you submitted.

Thank you for your efforts. Out of curiousity - what exactly caught your eye in the FIT file?
