Yes, I wrote what a user can do to obtain more probable values
of ascent and descent when displaying their track in Base Camp.

In Base Camp, in the track properties, the value of ascents and descents is displayed based on the value entered in TrackStatsExtension, disregarding the data actually recorded by the device, but if we select start and end on the elevation chart, the value of ascents and descents will be calculated based on the data recorded by the device.

How the value of ups and downs in TrackStatsExtension is determined, what is included, I have no explanation.

The value in TrackStatsExtension can be corrected by IT specialists without any major problems.

I am on the latest firmware also.
Can you please save the raw GPX+FIT files from these devices (for the same walk) and send them to us?

Did the same walk today with both my 67 and Epix Gen 2 Sapphire Pro and the elevation difference is crazy. The walk is totally flat and the watch is bang on, I have no idea where the 67 is getting the ascent from as you can clearly see between the two screen grabs the 67 is well off the mark. The watch is bang on with what apps say on my phone for the same route.

I even made sure to calibrate the altimeter to the correct height so the watch and 67 were showing the same correct height.

I'm a little underwhelmed with the 67 tbh for the flagship model and cost I'd expect better accuracy.

I've spoke to GARMIN with this issue the last few days, Had to record several walks with both my 67 and Epix pro Gen 2 to show them the difference and they've offered to replace it free of charge. Though I found the 67 was more accurate once "Auto Pause" was turned off.

You will likely just receive a new device with the same issue, but a new device may still make you happy :)

For fun:

Access the Power On Test Page, Select Device Info, and record the hardware version for your current 67 (take a photo), then do the same when the replacement shows up and report those numbers here.

Will do it, my last GPSMAP 67 didn't have such crazy readings I'm sure, will be interesting to see when the new one arrives, if it persists then obviously it's an hardware/software issue on them all, but my last 67 wasn't on 6.60. Be handy if someone else could do a walk with a 67 and another device to see the differences.

These tests are being performed several times a week off forum by multiple users, all with mixed results. Some see similar issues while others do not, and the exact reason has not yet been pinpointed. When the source of the issue is determined, I am confident a new firmware update will be released to correct it.

Well I've posted the 67 back to Garmin for a replacement device as per their instruction. See if the new one is the same, if it is I haven't lost anything as it hasn't cost me a penny other then a giffy bag and a printed label!

I did the same walk with my 20 year old Garmin 60CSx today to compare to the 67, not had it out for a good year or so. And that was absolutely bang on with the correct ascent and descent figure was spot on with my Garmin Epix Pro Sapphire, which for a 20 year old device that only has GPS capability is amazing really how accurate those things were for 20 years ago. The distance recorded was also exact to the watch!

What was the Hardware Version for the unit you sent back?

I checked some of my previous recorded activities and I also see a large difference between total ascent as recorded by the GPSMAP 67 and as reported by Strava after correcting based on map elevation data.

Also total ascent of the unit does not seem to match what should be a sensical value, eg dozens of meters ascent for a flat walk.

Hardware version of my unit is 67 v4 on device software version 6.60.
