What firmware version is your Oregon 7x0 running?
Can you please post screen captures of your device settings for 'Setup > Recording' and screen captures from your computer showing the contents of the '\Garmin\GPX\' and '\Garmin\GPX\Archive\' directories?

Here you go.
The archive directory is as you can see empty.
The mode under System is set to Activity. Does it make any difference if it is set to Classic?

Ah, you are using 'Activity Mode'?
Please test again in 'Classic Mode' and report if any improvement is observed.
It should not matter, but a test can help confirm.

Well I don't know if it made any difference but a few days experimenting with it set to classic mode (which I prefer anyway) and it has been making daily archives.

Excellent. Can you change again to Activity Mode and see if they stop?
