24K Maps

Unread post by oldcrashtestdummy »

I have the Garmin 24K maps for my 66st and they seem to work fine with the card in the unit. Is there a way to install them to the unit and free up the card slot?

Which 24k maps are you referring to? Did they come preloaded on a Garmin uSD card?

You still haven't said which map card you have.

TOPO US 24K Southwest micro sd card.
Ah, TOPO US 24K Southwest (Part Number: 010-C1134-00).

Those maps are locked to the uSD card.

The most current version of those maps that I am aware of still uses 10 year old data. Are you interested in any other Topo Map options? This option is also 10 years old, but it is free, and you can load it to both your home computer and GPSr.

It is locked to the microSD card. You can still get the 24k topo maps on DVD, and then you can load them to the actual GPSr. I was able to get all of them on DVD, but Garmin doesn't sell them anymore, and they're becoming harder and harder to find.

Excellent suggestion.... ebay may be your best bet!

Thanks for all the info gpsrchive and ivhs72. I don't understand the purpose of being able to accept a 32 GB micro sd card, only to loose all that by using a Garmin map card. Also what happens if you are following a zig zag route along border, do you have to keep removing the card and installing the correct one every time you cross the map boundary.
