Yeah I got it from here thanks. Still not available here otherwise.
I’m keen to give it a flogging... Interesting to see if it has solved the biggest problem here.

Just use the WebUpdater from Garmin.
If the update is ready it will show you on the screen.
You might need to try a couple of time in the week or more before it is there for your country.
The last thing anyone wants to do is brick your unit doing it yourself.
There is no rush and the WebUpdater does a good job installing it.

It most certainly is still valid.g66 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 8:45 am This section:

GCD Updates
Current (non beta) firmware updates are available directly from Garmin using the URL https://download.garmin.com/software/GP ... r__xyz.gcd and substituting xyz with the desired three digit firmware version. For example, to download firmware version 2.80, replace xyz with 280.
Is no more valid
If you substitute 'xyz' with '420', you will get firmware version 420, which is the current firmware version on the Garmin server. Once Garmin complete the update rollout, the newest version will replace it.

The GPSrChive > GPSMAP 66 > Firmware page also states:
This can be helpful for those who are capable of reading and comprehending the subject material. The Garmin WebUpdater program has been reported to find and install updates available for the GPSMAP 66 that other methods fail to locate.

Re: GPSMAP 66 Firmware 4.80
Received the 4.80 update on my GPSMAP 66s over WiFi, but it hangs during install. After powering on, I'm prompted to install the new version, and it goes into "Software Loading..." but just stays there. I've tried clearing data and resetting back to defaults, but that doesn't help. Version currently installed is 4.20. I also tried deleting the gupdate.gcd file; it was downloaded again, but still with the same hang during install.

Do you have a microSD card installed? If yes, please remove it, then perform the update and report results.

Re: GPSMAP 66 Firmware 4.80
I played with 4.80 a day or so without problems. Only a geocache pocket query got loaded only until 99% no matter how long I wait. Then, in the evening, I shut the device off and on again (did that multiple times during the day). It didn't boot and I thought, ok, I have to delete the SQL folder again. But instead of going into the forced mass storage mode, it did reset all settings and started finally with everything reset, asking for the language and so on.
I'm not sure what the reason was. I still suspect geocaching live. And I'm a bit afraid that the boot problems can occur anytime... So, I'm not really positive about this 4.80.

Firmware update 4.80 was pushed out in the UK today and I can confirm that it seems to work okay with my SanDisk Ultra 64Gb microSDXC Class 10 U1 card.

@beedaddy - did your GPSMAP 66 master reset itself without your input?
