Databases not rebuilt on boot

Unread post by wtremmel »

Hello,

yesterday I had the strange issue that my GPSMap 66st did not rebuilt its internal databases at boot time.
I tried everything from the book - removing/adding SD card, adding tracks, routes, Geocaches - nothing worked.

(I could see it did not rebuild as a route I removed the .gpx file was still visible when I chose "Find" / "Routes", when selecting the (non-existing) route the GPSmap crashed) - also geocaching .gpx files I added did not show up. This happened both with sd card and internal storage.

I was nearly to give up and do a master reset until I made one last try with batteries instead of using USB power like I did before, and for whatever reason it then rebuilt the database and everything is working again.

I know that this is not much of an error report as I could not (and really do not want to) recreate the error, but perhaps someone else picks this up and can supply more information on how to force a database rebuild.

best regards
Wolfgang

I've had a consistent problem that still happens even with the latest update. When I load my pocket queries, it takes forever for them to update (to the point of draining the batteries).

Here is what I have to do:
1) load the pocket queries using copy/paste to the/GPX folder in the device (I'm using USB power from my PC at that point)
2) I disconnect, and then turn the GPSr on. In a couple of minutes, it does boot, and I can see the geocache icons. But when I look at one, there is no information in it, totally blank, and it locks up the GPSr.
3) I then remove the batteries to power it down. I replace the batteries, and then power it up again by plugging it into AC power from the wall.
4) It powers on, and then takes more than 4 hours to update. I'm not sure how long because I do it before I got to bed, and when I get up in the morning, everything is updated.

This is the only way I've found to update my geocaches.

How many geocaches total in your PQs? How many files? How many MB total?

I have noticed different boot up behavior when batteries have been removed for 10-20s or so to that when batteries are quickly changed or normal power on. It takes much longer from a cold boot. I think there must be an element of caching data which is used to speed up the power up sequence in normal warm boot. If this cache gets corrupt then a battery removal may be just the cure.
