You aren't quite correct as far as my Montana 600 is concerned.

In the interests of science, I set the display to time out at 15secs.

With Battery Save ON, the screen goes completely off after 15secs and will only reactivate if I press the power button.

With Battery Save OFF, the screen doesn't go completely off after 15secs, but sort of greys out and you can still see the screen. It basically goes to "Backlight 0%" and you can still see the screen.

If I manually set the display brightness to zero percent, I can still see the screen enough even to operate it.

None of this matters to me, as I have my 600 display set to "Always On".

Regards,
Mick.

That is a change then, I'll stick with 7.10 for now!

@ Mick F As far as I know that is how it is supposed to work. I believe that it did work that way in previous version too.

That's certainly not how it works in 7.10 which is why I've reverted. With battery save ON you can now tap the screen to wake the device, with 7.20 you have to press the power button.

...which is as it should be, otherwise one could not place the GPSr in a pocket or backpack without the unit waking the first time something rubbed up against the screen!

Well that aspect doesn't worry me, the screen is still locked. What is more important is the ability to quickly wake the screen without having to fumble for the power button. It's how it always has worked so why they've made the switch now I don't know. 7.10 suits me better and 7.20 brings no real advantage so I'll be sticking with 7.10 :D

Fortunately, we all have the option to install the firmware each of us prefer!
