Average speed in motion

Unread post by CarlosN »

There's something I've noticed these days, and I don't know if it's related to the software update or if it's earlier.

If activity is not being recorded, when walking it shows all the values on the display, except "average speed in motion", which remains at 0.

I have tested it on a Montana 610 and it does calculate that parameter.

Which firmware version is your Montana 7x0 running?

I am unable to duplicate this behavior:

(A) with a track log recording in progress (both active and paused), and

(B) with no tracklog present and recording paused.

May need more details from you to duplicate what you are seeing.

The software is up to date: it is version 8.20.
I'll try it with different profiles and see what happens.
If it continues, I will send screenshots.

By the way, there is one aspect of the GPS operation that does not convince me: if you go with the screen locked and the lighting is dim, to see the screen you have to unlock. They should allow the screen to light up when the screen is locked.

It wouldn't be bad either if it could be switched off from a menu,

After running some tests, this is worse than I thought. Attached is a screenshot of the screen. As you can see, there is only data on speed and ascent. The rest = 0

I have tried changing the profile to one of the initial ones with the same result.

Your screen capture shows a recording that is paused with zero moving and trip time. The "00" are all accurate and correct.

You need to enable he recording controls and move about some before those numbers will change.

I have managed to reproduce on my GPS what happens.

There is a parameter, in SETUP > RECORDING > ADVANCED > TRIP RECORDING, that allows two values, "always" and "during activity".
If "Always" is chosen, all the fields that previously showed 0 show data again. Even if the activity is not being recorded.

If the other option is chosen, the data is displayed until the activity is cleared in the recording control. From that moment on, it remains at 0.
