@gpsrchive: Because it didn't boot up, I tried to put it in forced mass storage mode (holding the D-PAD (Up) button). But instead of entering mass storage mode, it made a "beep" and did a master reset.

So, everything is operating as expected now, after the Master Reset?

I originally did, but I had removed it, reset settings and cleared memory (power + enter method), and the 4.80 update still hung at "Software Loading..." on my device.

@AndyJ - You may need to contact Garmin Support for further assistance.

I do have problems to connect the device with my (Linux-)PC. Set it to MTP mode as always, but never had this problem. Instead of having the device mounted, it shows for some seconds the usb symbol and then shuts off. Garmin Serial setting works though.

Regarding the boot problem… I will again sync a geocaching pocket query (since my uneducated guess is that it somehow mangles the database) and see…

After syncing two pocket queries (with 699 and 287 geocaches), everything is fine so far. I have the impression that the syncing process was noticeably faster.

Excellent!

As much as I do not like to Master Reset my devices, I have found that doing so following firmware updates with substantial changes can provide a better result!

So now it would be interesting for me to know whether I'm the only one with the broken MTP mode. :?
Before 4.80 (or at least before 4.70), MTP worked without any problem.
