I'm a little confused about firmware files. I downloaded Garmin Express and it updated my Gpsmap 66st unit to software version 3.4, but the GPS software (chipset?) version stayed at 2.5, and did not update. I understand the newest GPS software is 2.7. Is there a second updater for the chipset?
I called Garmin support, and they told me not to worry (version 2.5 is just fine)- - if the chipset needs to be updated, that will be done automatically at the appropriate time.
Thanks for any insight.

Join the crowd... Most of us (if not all) do not understand this behavior.

Re: Update firmware files
Seems that garmin helpdesk prefers 2.5 to 2.7
2.7 can be loaded with webupdater.

Re: Update firmware files
WebUpdater is listed on the Software page but not on the Firmware page as it is not as capable as Garmin Express, and should not be solely relied on to manage your GPSMAP 66. Having said that, it has been added to the Firmware page as an additional update source.
