66st powering down or misbehaving

Unread post by Rohit »

Has anyone experienced random power down of the 66st?

If you have, try taking the SD card out as it may resolve the problem.

There is unlikely to be an issue with your SD card or the maps on it - this is primarily due to software issues at Garmin's end and which they hope to resolve over the coming 2 year lead-in period that they have for ironing out issues.

Another issue that Garmin is aware of is units reporting statistics that say that you have possibly travelled 15,000 miles in less than 2 hours when you might not have covered more than 8 - 9 miles. -I am told that this is a known issue and will be corrected at some unspecified time in the future.

The folk at Garmin on the support desk are very polite but they are not technically minded or trained - they have a script of what they need to ask you to do before they send you an email and a request for a survey.

Same here - - my gpsmap 66st (firmware 3.4) powers down randomly (although infrequently). I'll be watching that - - maybe there is some pattern to it after all.

Forgot to add that the power down happens without a SD card.

When I had my 66st I had random shut downs. It's one of the many reasons I returned the unit.
