Tablet USB port not recognised

My 66st has been working fine when connecting to USB ports on my desktop, but now (just as I'm about to embark on a 4 week holiday with it), I discover that it won't recognise it is connected to a USB port on my tablet (that I take on my travels), The GPS recognises it is connected to power, but never offers me the option to switch to USB mode - so I can't extract my tracks and waypoints.
1. Has anyone experienced this before with USB ports ?
2. Can anyone think of other ways of extracting tracks and waypoints ?
thanks
Ian

What Windows version is the tablet?
Maybe it needs a
driver.

It's Windows 10. I suspect/know that the USB port is limited in its power supply capacity (from trying to connect my phone, and camera to it in the past). I eventually did get it to connect to the 66st by my usual method of "faffing-about".
However, I have solved the problem - by buying another tablet !

Microsoft Surface Go, with a USB-C-to-USB adaptor
(sorry for the late reply)
