Rechergable lithium batteries

Unread post by Joggl67 »

Hi all, does anyone have experience with rechargeable lithium batteries? I bought JBL batteries that can be charged directly with a usb cable. However, i have problems when switching on the gpsmap 66. I have to press the power button several times until the device turns on. Sometimes more than 10 times. Once the device is on, it works fine. There are no problems with normal lithium batteries.

Do you have a part number for those batteries so we can do more research?

Sorry typing mistake: EBL, not JBL
It‘s that one:
EBL USB Rechargable AA Lithium Batterie
1.5V 3300mWh Long Lasting
Rechargable Double A LI-ion Batterie with Micro Charing Cable

I know only the number which is shown at Amazon: ASIN B081DRJZ6F

Fascinating.

There is some clever advertising occurring here.

A standard Amazon Basics NiMH AA is rated for 2400mAh at 1.2v, which is 2880mWh.

The EBL batteries are 'rated' for 3300mWh at 1.5v, which equates to only 2200mAh capacity while 'appearing' far more impressive than the 2500mAh rating provided by competitor batteries!

I am unsure of the chemistry they are using, and I suspect it may not be able to supply the heavier load required by the GPSr during the boot sequence. As they provide less usable energy than a standard NiMH, I will stick with my trusty NiMH batteries for now.

Are you sure it is 1,5V and not 1.2V
Recharcheables usually have 1.2

Whoops, you are correct. I checked the Amazon product page for each again and of course the NiMH are rated at 1.2v. The EBL lithium are rated at 1.5v.

I have updated my post above with the correct numbers. The NiMH still provide more mAh. And no current Garmin GPSr can charge rechargeable Lithium AA in the device.

Thank you for catching my error!
