Track Recording with GPS Elevation Data
Hello everyone.
I traveled by an airplane last night. I tried to record the track by my GPSMAP66S.
I checked the track in Basecamp after flying. But I found out there is no any GPS Elevation data in. Please find attached file and check it out. The elevation data is related to Barometric sensor not GPS.
How can I have GPS elevation data in the recorded track?

Re: Track Recording with GPS Elevation Data
If you want your Garmin GPSr to use GPS Elevation data instead of barometric elevation data while recording a tracklog, configure:
1. Setup > Altimeter > Auto Calibration > Off
2. Setup > Altimeter > Barometer Mode > Fixed Elevation
3. Setup > Altimeter > Calibrate Altimeter > GPS Altitude
Do not forget to clear the current tracklog before starting a new recording!

Re: Track Recording with GPS Elevation Data
I configured the GPS as you explained. Today I tried to record a new track but it did as before. unfortunately it records barometric elevation yet.gpsrchive wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 1:10 pm If you want your Garmin GPSr to use GPS Elevation data instead of barometric elevation data while recording a tracklog, configure:

Re: Track Recording with GPS Elevation Data
Well, I did as you suggested and cleared the tracklog. Subsequently I went for a walk. First off the barometric altimeter showed 22m higher altitude. Its reading remained constant during the walk, whereas the GPS altitude was in line with elevation that I followed. The elevation in the recorded file gave the barometric height, which remained constant during the whole walk.
I would assume that the 66s would show the same response during a flight.
Garmin could easily do a better job with regard to the firmware.

Re: Track Recording with GPS Elevation Data
Interesting.
I was able to do this in 2018 with my GPSMAP 66 using an early firmware version.
Perhaps something has changed since then.
I have sent Garmin a request for clarification...

Re: Track Recording with GPS Elevation Data
It's interesting for me why there is no any dedicated column in basecamp to show GPS elevation when I can see both elevation and GPS elevation in Dashboard and the device can record every separated parameters.
Suppose that this configuration can be work as we expected, At this time we never have any elevation data when the device doesn't have GPS signal. am I right?

Re: Track Recording with GPS Elevation Data
With software 6.00 the described method will not save the GPS elevation, tested it.
Perhaps a feature request can be added.
Barometer Mode: Off, use GPS elevation, or perhaps simply "GPS elevation only".
Which would use the GPS elevation instead of the elevation calculated by using the barometer.
i know it does not really fit as a Barometer mode, but other options probably need a new attribute.
