According to the email I received on April 10, 2018, Garmin will shortly be releasing a new version of BaseCamp that will no longer include the Garmin hosted Cloud Storage or Garmin Adventures. You will be able to use your own cloud storage option as a replacement. And you will still be able to create local Adventures, but they will no longer be hosted at Garmin or shared with the community. It looks like Garmin is getting out of the storage business except for Garmin Connect. The end of life date is May 21, 2018.

THANKS to csewell for his post!
13 Apr 2018/3:25 PM – I JUST completed a live chat session with Garmin during which the Garmin rep told me the release in a couple of weeks is a version update. I asked him point blank if this was a new product like Basecamp was to Mapsource and he said that was not his understanding.

I started looking because another post on another site with the topic:
Garmin BaseCamp being discontinued
peaked my interest. As I recall, Garmin gave users plenty of warning when they released Basecamp and they continued to support Mapsource for a very long time after that release.

But it raised my concern enough to write my own email to Garmin Product Support and suggest they engage in at least a measure of information control. If they're still developing features for whatever they plan to release they obviously won't discuss them. If they feel it is warranted they may publish a release date and at least a little info about what is behind the curtain.

Personally, I will not miss a single one of the "features" csewell mentioned in his post. We all use Basecamp a little differently. To me, removing those items will be product improvement.

Garmin's reply arrived today. Here it is verbatim:
(Note: Garmin Homeport is Garmin's Marine Planning Software)

Hello,
Next month, Garmin is releasing new versions of HomePort™ and BaseCamp™ that provide improved data security. At that time, Garmin will retire the Cloud Storage option. Be sure to export your user data from Garmin Cloud Storage before May 21, 2018. In addition, BaseCamp™ allows you to configure your favorite cloud storage provider as a replacement so you can keep your favorite waypoints in the same place you store your other important files. Please note, data will no longer be available from Garmin Cloud Storage after May 21, 2018. Detailed instructions for exporting your user data can be found in our FAQ.
If you used BaseCamp with Garmin Adventures™, thank you for your participation in our online community for the past 5 years. It’s with sorrow we announce the end of Garmin Adventures. Any adventures you have created in BaseCamp will remain on your local computer but will be removed from the online community after May 21, 2018. You will still be able to create Garmin Adventures on your computer and load them to your Garmin device. See our BaseCamp Support Center content if you need assistance.

For HomePort users, Garmin offers an alternative to manage your waypoints, routes and other user data, without the need for the computer. The new ActiveCaptain® app, available for both Apple® and Android™ mobile devices, lets you create and sync waypoints and routes between your mobile device and your compatible chartplotter and much more. Learn more about ActiveCaptain today.

Thank you for choosing Garmin,
Jordan

Can you explain to me how to configure a personal cloud in the application?

Thank you
