Total Ascent

Unread post by MP21 »

My 750t consistently gives me high readings for total ascent even though periodic elevation readings are accurate. My altimeter is set on continuous calibration. This week I took a reading of total ascent of 1000' when it should have been about 700'. Checked this on a topo after the hike. Thanks for any help.

I might add that I just purchased a 750t moving from a 550. Wow what a learning curve. I keep analyzing my hike trying to determine what might have happened. I just discovered that I could retrieve the recorded trip info. And in this data I found that my ascent was 500' more that my descent along the same path. So I see one possibility that I did not have a good GPS lock when I started.

My Oregon 7x0 units have the Altimeter set to calibrate just once. Maybe try this setting and see if you have better results?

You can always manually calibrate it at the start of the hike as well.
