Re: Gpsmap 66st Compass calibration failed Please try again

For what its worth, I always learned compass calibration should be done outdoors, and never on a concrete slab, or rock like granite - the iron in rebar and rocks can disrupt the local magnetic field a bit. Electrical wiring has a similar impact.

Re: Basecamp Windows 10 Installation error.

Do you have an AMD video card, by any chance? That seems to be a common case with this problem. Maybe check if your video drivers are up to date. Somehow I'm not having any issues with my AMD Radeon card, latest Win 10 updates. Whatever the problem is, it's likely some very specific combination.

Re: Battery Charge Level Display on GPSMAP 66s

I exclusively use NiMh AAs in my GSP receivers. I've learned not to worry too much about the battery gauge, which is voltage based (I think) and not really representative of the batteries state of charge. I just always start with freshly charged batteries, and always carry extra sets - and a charger...

Re: 66st powering down or misbehaving

When I had my 66st I had random shut downs. It's one of the many reasons I returned the unit.

Re: "No geocaches found" bug

OK, Good deal. I spent some more time trying a few things in attempt to narrow down the problem. I didn't find exactly what triggers the problem, but perhaps the following data points will help. I took my original 50 image KMZ, and manually recreated it with a smaller number of images (unzipping the...

Re: "No geocaches found" bug

Sorry, didn't mean to sound so negative - just disappointed to see where Garmin is today with the quality of software in these latest models, versus my experience with all my older receivers. When I sold my boat a couple of years ago, it had a still-functioning GPS 120 which had to be close to 25 ye...

Is this the ONLY KMZ file that has this affect?
So the answer to this is: I don't know. I tried two randomly exported KMZ files from CalTOPO, using the minimal possible size (16 tiles at 1:24K) and I could not trigger the issue.

Re: "No geocaches found" bug

Is this the ONLY KMZ file that has this affect? I don't know, I haven't tested any others. One other thing I didn't mention before - the KMZ wasn't even enabled on the unit (though clearly it still needs to be indexed)... I'll try another one, though I've already exceeded reasonable time in doing G...

Re: "No geocaches found" bug

I emailed both the kmz and gpx file. It's a big attachment, but email didn't bounce. If you did not receive, reply here and I'll email a link where you can download the files. Thanks!

"No geocaches found" bug

In this thread I mentioned the "No geocaches found" bug that some people have experienced after turning the GPSr off. I won't put all the background here, for anyone stumbling on this thread, please read the linked one. OK, so I made some progress in how to trigger this bug. On my GPSr, I had a .km...
