Re: Total ascent figures

I have just read BLTAAKE's comments about the difference between the Trip Computer on Garmin devices and the GPX Track Log at https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mac-windows-software/f/basecamp-windows/161408/accuracy-of-total-ascent-and-descent-in-basecamp In the past, there has been a confusi...

Re: Total ascent figures

Mine are the same as oldkingog. I have been thinking of changing to continuous calibration, but in the interests of changing one thing at a time, have not done this yet.

The barometer at least seems to take an accurate reading of current elevation at a moment in time. It seems like the software, though, takes into account subtle changes in barometric readings and includes all theses small increases and decreases into the total elevation gain/loss.
Agreed.

Re: Total ascent figures

Sorry for the delay, guys. I must be in a time zone behind you. It's not clear to me what file ends up where, but I'm assuming that the FIT file gets uploaded to Connect. I know I upload the GPX file into Basecamp. The Basecamp elevation data is way off as is the Connect data, unless elevation corr...

Re: Total ascent figures

In addition to the above. The issue of fit vs gpx is nothing new. Here is a discussion on the matter from 2016: https://forums.geocaching.com/GC/index.php?/topic/340871-elevation-ascent-displayed-on-device-vs-fit-track-record/&tab=comments#comment-5603609 There is a lot of complex discussion in this...

Re: Total ascent figures

I record both fit and gpx files and notice that in Garmin Connect these two files give widely different figures; the gpx file being close to expected, the fit being double or greater and matching figures displayed on the unit - with elevation correction disabled in Connect. So... the gpx file is OK...

Re: Total ascent figures

I've raised this issue with Garmin support as well and have sent in files from my 66 and my Vivoactive 3 tracking the same flat walk. My watch would give around 11 ft elevation gain on a flat walk around my neighborhood while the 66 would record several hundred feet gain. The support person said th...

Re: Total ascent figures

I've never looked at the difference between my fit and gpx files. The trip computer is way off while recording (which is the most frustrating part.) Is yours as well? So the issue is with data displayed in the trip computer, not gpx or fit data? The issue is that the data displayed in the trip comp...

Re: Total ascent figures

Yes, the total ascent in the trip computer is usually about double what it should be. Can you please share a screenshot of your Setup > Recording > Advanced Setup page? Gladly, if I could... posting images here is not as straightforward as it might be... Can I send it to you direct? Better still I'...
